Colonnade

At Baron Ruzettepark, artistic and architectural duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh presents a pavilion that seems to be a cross between an impenetrable forest of trees and a Roman colonnade. While its mysterious and classical character invites you to enter, you will not find an empty space inside 'Colonnade'. Instead, you have to crawl and stoop to find your way through a hundred columns running diagonally across one another, which together produce a space resembling a labyrinth. As you go deeper into this dark forest of columns, you may be confronted with a feeling of fear or disorientation. After you have been forced back on yourself, you emerge from the pavilion purified, possibly enriched with a new sense of perspective. Each visitor's physical experience of the journey through the pavilion will be uniquely subjective.

Colonnade is installed in a public space and can be viewed for free.
