Urnenkerk Lampernisse

In the small West Flemish village of Lampernisse, the former Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross has been given a new purpose. No longer used for worship since 2018, the building now combines two functions: a serene urn church and a community space called 'De Seizoenen'.

The choir was transformed into an intimate memorial space, where beautifully crafted “urn trees” offer 120 niches for the storage of urns. The community area now hosts small events, meetings and cultural activities.

Designed by architects D’Hooge-Meganck, the project preserves the quiet soul of the historic site while giving it renewed relevance. Even the church tower is now accessible, offering visitors panoramic views over the Westhoek.
