Abbaye d'Aulne

The Abbey of Aulne is situated in the picturesque Vallée de la Paix (“Valley of Peace”), along the River Sambre in Belgium’s Walloon region. Founded in 657 by Saint Landelin of Crespin, the abbey began as a Benedictine monastery before becoming a Cistercian abbey in 1147. Throughout its history, the Abbey of Aulne experienced alternating periods of prosperity and decline, culminating in its partial destruction by French revolutionaries in 1794. Today, its evocative ruins stand as a testament to centuries of spiritual and architectural heritage.
